Deadline: August 8, 2008 (Letter of Inquiry) This looks like a great opportunity for community-based health groups who use Peace Tiles as a health communication intervention - for expression, self-advocacy, therapy and research. Feel free to drop me a line at peacetiles at gmail dot com if you need assistance preparing a grant. Johnson & Johnson , working in partnership with the Society for the Arts in Health - care, seeks to promote the use of the arts to enhance the healthcare experience for patients, their families, and caregivers. From 2001 to 2008, the partnership has provided funding to 115 programs in the United States and Canada representing leading models and initiatives in high-quality health care through the use of arts. Proposals are now being sought from healthcare and/or arts organ- izations that have established arts in healthcare programs with evidence of initial impact. Grants, each averaging a total of $75,000 over three years, are designed to assist organizations in strengthening program evaluation, replicating programs, and disseminating program information nationally and/or internationally. For more information and eligibility requirements, review the guidelines available at the Society for the Arts in Healthcare Web site. I've been participating in Peace Tiles Project since Lars came up with the idea years ago, on various levels. I thought you all might be interested in a recent Peace Tiles exchange I facilitated.
I volunteer and am a board member for the SaltSpring Organization for Life Improvement and Development (SOLID) on SaltSpring Island, BC, Canada. We support grassroots projects in various countries in Africa addressing the HIV/AIDS pandemic. A year or so ago I connected with the 'Knit Wits of Meadowbrook" and since that time they have been helping us to raise funds for our causes and knitting and sewing for African initiatives. Meadowbrook is a seniors residence on SaltSpring Island and the "Knit Wits" is their resident knitting club. Since our meeting they have been knitting hats, baby blankets and sewing school bags and receiving blankets for SOLID and African children. Some of the items we sell here to raise funds also, when someone is traveling to visit our projects in Africa, we send the items there to be given to the children. Another group that has been instrumental in helping us to raise funds etc is the Global Awareness Group at our local high school, Gulf Islands Secondary School. |

Summer is a great time of year to experiment with create ways to engage youth in creating positive community change. One idea we've come up with here at Peace Tiles is the "Create-A-Thon" concept: a simple and fun way to raise money for your cause while putting young people's creativity to work in the community. We've developed a one-page guide to help any community organization use the Peace Tiles process as an engaging fundraiser and community service project for all kinds of groups. You can download the guide by clicking here. | | No comments for this item |
